State commission weighs permanent closure of Cama Beach cabins
STANWOOD — Under a proposal before the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission, 33 rentable cabins would be closed permanently at Cama Beach Historical State Park. The commission is considering the move because of the park’s native history, sea level rise and the cost of fixing septic issues, members said during a meeting held Monday in Stanwood.

Millado, a 45-year-old Oak Harbor resident, escaped following a high-speed chase through the city on May 11 during which he extended his arm out the window and wagged his index finger at police, according to a report by a deputy with the Island County Sheriff’s Office.
Langley limits short-term rentals
In response to the growing housing crisis on South Whidbey, the Langley City Council has decided to limit the number of a certain type of short-term rental unit. The council unanimously agreed to reduce the capacity of type IV short term rental permits from 30 to 15, which was suggested by Councilmember Craig Cyr.
Langley leaders reconsider public safety sales tax
Langley officials are once again considering a public safety sales tax. The topic resurfaced during a city council meeting this week, with unanimous approval for a resolution authorizing a submission for a proposal in the increase in city sales tax of 0.1%, which would bring in an estimated $51,000 annually. Voters will have the chance to accept or reject the new tax when it appears on the November ballot.
