Mountain State Spotlight is excited to announce that Tre Spencer has joined the organization as economic development reporter.

Tre spent the summer reporting on wildfires as Mountain State Spotlight’s Journalist of Color Fellow.

“We were impressed with the reporting that Tre produced during the course of his fellowship,”  said Founding Editor-in-Chief Ken Ward Jr. “Economic development issues impact the well being of our communities and the ability of all West Virginians to share in our state’s economic wealth. We’re thrilled that Tre will continue to produce exceptional journalism for Mountain State Spotlight.”

Tre is a recent graduate of Ohio University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism and master’s degree in public administration. Tre has also reported for publications in Toledo and Denver.

As economic development reporter, Tre will report on policies and developments that affect the state’s economy and the financial well being of West Virginians.

In his free time, he enjoys exploring, attending concerts, painting, hiking and cooking new recipes.

The Mountain State Spotlight Journalist of Color Fellowship Project was made possible by a grant from The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation.
