Jefferson County Health Department (JCHD) is reporting the first detection of West Nile Virus in a mosquito population in Jefferson County. Specimen collected on August 16th were tested August 18th and detected West Nile Virus in mosquito populations in De Soto, Missouri. De Soto city officials have been notified of the positive results.

Two shot at Joplin residence, suspect sought
JOPLIN, Mo. — The Joplin Police Department is searching for a suspect after a weekend shooting that left two victims wounded – one in critical condition. JPD’s Emergency Communications Center received the first report of gunfire just after 2:00 a.m. Sunday for a disturbance with a weapon at 830 S. Grand Avenue. Police responded and say it appeared to be a large party. That’s where they found one man with serious gunshot injuries. EMS transported him to a local hospital for further treatment. He’s considered to be in critical condition, JPD said Monday.
