Over the last year, a North Jersey Girl Scout has successfully turned her passion for animals into a statewide effort to advocate for the importance of fostering pets. Sophia Gillen, of Mountain Lakes, has been working on her gold award project, the most prestigious award a Girl Scout can receive, for just over a year. The project is called "Phenomenal Foster Pets" and is made up of various components including a proclamation from the governor and a fun patch to encourage advocacy for fostering pets.

Jersey City Hit-and-Run Leaves Two with Serious Injuries
JERSEY CITY, NJ - A man and a woman were seriously injured in the early morning hours of Saturday when the moped they were traveling on was struck by another vehicle. According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a collision in the area of Martin Luther King Drive and Wilkinson Avenue at approximately 12:20 a.m. Upon their arrival, officers located two victims, a 36-year-old male of East Orange and a 26-year-old female of Newark. The second vehicle did not remain at the scene but was subsequently identified and recovered. Hunterdon motorcyclist killed after striking guardrail on I-287
A New Jersey man was killed Thursday when the motorcycle he was riding crashed on Interstate 287 in Somerset County, authorities said. Mazen Alnaser, 28, of Whitehouse Station in Hunterdon County, was riding the motorcycle behind a vehicle in the highway’s northbound lanes when he veered to the left near milepost 16.6 in Bridgewater and hit a guardrail, according to New Jersey State Police.

HAGERSTOWN, Md. -- The Staten Island FerryHawks dropped their first game in Hagerstown by a final score of 9-4 Friday evening, dropping the Island’s Atlantic League record to 26-31. The Hagerstown Flying Boxcars jumped ahead early in the game, putting up five runs in the first inning against FerryHawks starter William Kirwan.
