A pedestrian was struck by a semi-truck driver on Interstate 5 in Mountlake Terrace overnight.

The Washington State Patrol had initially believed the crash was a hit-and-run incident because the vehicle reported to have hit the victim was different than the vehicle that was actually involved.

The Washington State Department of Transportation first reported an incident in the northbound lanes near 220th Street Southwest at 1:50 a.m. Friday.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding said when troopers arrived and began investigating, they discovered a semi tractor-trailer was involved. Troopers said a pedestrian walked onto the freeway, and the driver of the semi swerved, but the pedestrian was hit by the trailer.

The driver did pull over and walked back to help the pedestrian, but had pulled over north of the incident to ensure the large vehicle was out of the way, Harding said.

The victim, who may have been impaired when he walked onto the the freeway, was seriously hurt.

The two right lanes were blocked for several hours while troopers investigated.

The scene was cleared and the lanes reopened at about 4:30 a.m.

No, not a hit and run. Initially the vehicle reported was different that was involved. When troopers arrived and began investigating they discovered the semi was involved and had stayed on scene just pulled a bit further north to clear the semi and trailer from the roadway.
