Loring Hospital Contributes $28.27 Million To State Economy In 2023
Iowa hospitals play a central role in supporting their home community’s vitality, and Loring Hospital in Sac City is no exception, contributing an estimated $28.27 million to the state’s economy in 2023. According to a recent report released by the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA), Loring Hospital supported 225 jobs throughout the state, 118 of which were direct employment at Loring. In total, the hospital paid $7.1 million in wages and benefits to staff, which is then spent locally to support area businesses. Concert at amusement park to raise funds for Spencer flood victims
Managers of an Iowa Great Lakes amusement park have set a $50,000 for a benefit concert to help Spencer residents impacted by flooding. Jon Pausley is executive director of Arnolds Park, which is on the shore of West Lake Okoboji. “All of us in northwest Iowa got affected somehow by all of this floooding, but we were very fortunate here at Arnolds Park to really just have minor inconveniences as compared to many people down in Spencer who were just devastated,” he says, “and we certainly wanted to do something to help our neighbors to the south.”

Carroll County Supervisors Approve Halbur Ridge Wildlife Area Donation To City Of Halbur
The Carroll County Board of Supervisors finalized a land donation to the City of Halbur for proposed trail development west of the community during their meeting yesterday (Monday). City officials approached the board earlier this year and requested the Halbur Ridge Wildlife Area be transferred to the city, but the supervisors held off on approving the land gift until they confirmed the county maintained first right of refusal on the approximately half-mile strip of land. The City of Halbur submitted a formal plan to the county that shows they plan to begin fundraising and pursue grants to pave the trail to be used for walking and biking. With first-right-of-refusal secured and a plan in place, the board voted unanimously to approve the land transfer.
Forest City Works With a Tree Doctor
The Forest City Council is working to try and control the infestation of the Emerald Ash Borer and other pests attacking city trees. Forest City Streets and Sanitation Director Andrew Faber commented to the city council that his team took matters into their own hands with part of the project.
