Excessive heat in the Tri-State area
Forecasters have issued an excessive heat warning as hot temperatures mark the beginning of the week in the tri-state area. The National Weather Service says the excessive heat warning is effective from 11 AM to 8 PM Monday in Clayton, Delaware, Dubuque, and Jackson counties in Iowa; Jo Daviess County in Illinois; and Crawford, Grant, Iowa, and Lafayette counties in Wisconsin. An excessive heat watch has been issued for Tuesday, August 27 for the tri-state area. Heat indices could reach 110 degrees Fahrenheit Monday and Tuesday. Teh weather service reminds outdoor workers to stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade as often as possible. Motorists are reminded to avoid leaving kids and pets unattended in vehicles.
Time is Running Out on the Unclaimed $500,000 Iowa Lottery Ticket
The winner of a massive lottery prize has less than a month to claim it before a six-figure piece of paper effectively becomes worthless. Back in March, a Powerball ticket was purchased at a Kwik Star, located at 1502 South Federal Avenue, in Mason City, IA. That ticket proved to be a lucky one, as it's now worth $500,000. The prize will expire if unclaimed by the September 12th deadline.

Denison Man Injured In Two-Vehicle Crash On I-29 Over The Weekend
A Denison man sustained serious but not-life-threatening injuries in a two-vehicle crash in western Iowa over the weekend. According to the Iowa State Patrol, 49-year-old Juan Cardenas Chavez of Denison was traveling southbound on Interstate 29 in a 1997 Nissan Frontier at approximately 7:31 a.m. Saturday between Whiting and Onawa. Authorities say Chavez was towing a 1994 Dodge Dakota, and it was struck from behind by a 2025 Freightliner semi-tractor trailer, operated by 64-year-old Theodore Armstrong of Belmont, N.C. Both drivers lost control of their respective vehicles and sustained injuries in the crash. Monona County Emergency Medical Services transported Chavez and Armstrong to Burgess Health Center in Onawa for treatment.
Theft and Indecent Exposure in Sibley
Sibley, IA (KICD) — A Sibley man has been charged for stealing a car and for indecent exposure. The Osceola County Sheriff’s department was called to a residence where a woman and her son observed a man – allegedly 28 year old Tristan Roetzel – walking into their garage and taking their car. After backing out of the garage, they say he stopped to remove his clothes, then got back inside.
