App State’s Joey Aguilar and ODU’s Jason Henderson Named SBC Preseason Players of the Year
Ahead of this week’s Sun Belt Media Days in New Orleans, the league announced the league’s preseason players of the year for both offense and defense. Appalachian State quarterback Joey Aguilar was dubbed the offensive player of the year. The 2023 Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year set the App State single-season program records for passing yards (3,757), passing touchdowns (33), total offense (4,002), passing attempts (460) and completions (293) in 2023. Aguilar’s Mountaineers were also picked to win the league in the preseason coaches poll.
