MULBERRY, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The city of Mulberry has the money to expand its water treatment plant after approving a $1.8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The grant was approved at a city council special meeting on Tuesday night.

The project costs more than 11 million in total and will double the city’s capacity to produce water. It’s being paid for through a mix of grants and loans.

“People love it. They love the progress and the citizens are all on board about this, I’ve got a great city council here, they are very supportive, they’re on board,” Mulberry Mayor Gary Baxter said.

The city also got a $5 million grant from the USDA to help cover the cost.
