MULBERRY, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — One River Valley nonprofit has been keeping children well-fed and well-read this summer.

The ‘Summer Smiles’ program by the Mulberry Community Food Pantry has been distributing picture and chapter books to Crawford County children alongside their usual meal services.

“My motivation is the fact that I was a former school administrator and I had kids cry because of summer,” Suzy Ferguson, Mulberry Community Food Pantry’s director, said. “Summer can be a sad time for kids in poverty.”

The last Summer Smiles Day is on Aug. 5 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
