USF welcomes nearly 300 new faculty members
August 15, 2024 - University of South Florida’s leadership hopes 291 new faculty members, a 29% increase over 2023, will help enhance its position as one of America’s preeminent research institutions. According to the announcement, the group includes leading health experts, marine scientists, computer engineers and “prominent scholars in other fields.” USF officials believe joining the prestigious Association of American Universities in 2023 helped attract new faculty, and 35% came from member institutions.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers authorizes Port Tampa Bay’s plan to deepen channel
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has signed off on Port Tampa Bay’s General Reevaluation Report that details the port’s plan to deepen shipping channels. The plan calls for the main portions of the waterways that service Port Tampa Bay to deepen from 43 to 47 feet. The Tampa Harbor Navigation Improvement Study began three years ago.
