Muncie man accused of dealing fentanyl, meth

MUNCIE, Ind. — A Muncie was arrested after police accused him of selling fentanyl to informants for the Muncie-Delaware County Drug Task Force.

Nathan D. Johnson, 25, was being held in the Delaware County Jail under a $55,000 bond, preliminarily charged with three counts of dealing in a narcotic drug and single counts of dealing in meth and maintaining a common nuisance. Two of the preliminary dealing charges are Level 2 felonies with maximum 30-year sentences.

Johnson is accused of selling fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid often linked to local drug overdoses, on June 14 and again on June 17.

The second transaction allegedly took place at his home in the 500 block of South Liberty Street.

Johnson was taken into custody June 17 on the city's south side. Allegedly recovered from his car were plastic bags containing fentanyl, heroin and meth, along with the cash used in the earlier drug transaction and a set of digital scales.

A search warrant was served at his home, and officers reported finding 129 grams of meth, nearly 100 grams of fentanyl and 32 grams of heroin in a safe there.

The Delaware County prosecutor's office will determine whether formal charges in the case will be filed.

In April, Johnson — then listed at an Anderson address — was charged with driving as a habitual traffic violator in Delaware Circuit Court 5. An initial hearing in that case is set for July 30.

According to court records, Johnson has been convicted of crimes including driving while intoxicated and theft.
