MUNCIE, Ind. — A Muncie mother has been charged with two education-related neglect charges after her children reportedly missed a significant amount of school this year.

According to court documents filed in Delaware County in June, Stephany Edgeman was charged with two counts of neglect of a dependent, where the defendant deprives dependent of education as required by law. Each count is a Level 6 felony.

On April 18, officials with the Muncie Police Department were dispatched to City Hall in Muncie on a call in relation to educational neglect. Officials with Muncie Community Schools reported that they have contacted Edgeman after two of her children were “not coming to school.”

After an initial investigation, officials learned that one of the children missed around 50 days of school and had not been to school since March 12. The other child was also missing school, the documents said, but officials were “not provided with a timeline of how many days of school (were) missed.”

No trial information has been scheduled for Edgeman as of this story’s publication, according to court documents.
