MUNCIE, Ind. — A pharmacist at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital has been accused of stealing prescription medications.
Christopher Richard Knoth, 44, of rural Yorktown, was arrested Sunday on preliminary counts of possession of a controlled substance, theft and possession of paraphernalia.
In an affidavit, Michael Watkins, a lieutenant with the IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital Police Department, alleged that Knoth — employed at the hospital's main pharmacy — was suspected of removing "a large quantity of drugs."
The court document said the pharmacist reported he had had been sending the medications — hydromorphone and methadone — to "non-existent customers" at two local medical facilities.
An audit of pharmacy transactions between January and July revealed "no documentation" the medications were "placed in those clinics or destroyed."

A search warrant was served at Knoth's home, along Delaware County Road 925 West, on Thursday, and investigators reported finding "full and empty vials of hydromorphone, empty packaging that had contained methadone, hospital pharmacy transaction documents, syringes and needles, (and) financial records."
Knoth was released from the Delaware County Jail early Monday after posting a $27,500 bond. The Delaware County prosecutor's office will determine whether formal charges will be filed.
The affidavit indicated Knoth has been a licensed pharmacist in Indiana since August 2006. Court records reflect no prior charges against the Yorktown man.
