Here in Evanston: Never the same parade
Before there was the Juneteenth parade, Evanston’s main observance of independence was the Fourth of July parade on Central Street. After 50 years of being an exclusively North Evanston institution, in 1973 Celebration Manager Garth J. Conley Jr. encouraged all civic, social and religious organizations to enter the parade. The day’s events would be characterized as the “Evanston 4th of July Celebration,” not the “North Evanston 4th of July Celebration.”

Police looking for 3 suspects after shots fired during possible Hoffman Estates home invasion

Heroines and Heroes is moving to 2026 Central St. in Evanston, a larger storefront about 1 mile from its current location at 1129 Central in Wilmette. Northwestern's law school discriminates against white men, lawsuit claims
A new lawsuit accused Northwestern University's Law School of discriminating against white men.The complaint was filed in federal court by a conservative group called, "Faculty, Alumni and Students Opposed to Racial Preferences."The plaintiffs argued that "left-wing" administrators were violating anti-discrimination provisions by hiring women and people of color over white men with better credentials.Northwestern said it intends to fight the lawsuit, which follows a Supreme Court decision last year to invalidate race-conscious admissions at Harvard University.

11 injured in West Chatham crash involving CTA bus: Chicago fire officials
Eleven people were taken to various hospitals after a crash involving a CTA bus Tuesday, Chicago fire officials said.The crash took place sometime Tuesday morning near 76th Street and South Lafayette Avenue in the city's West Chatham neighborhood.ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. D97 welcomes 3 new school leaders
Oak Park Elementary School District 97 has hired three new school leaders for the 2024-25 school year.
