Bimbi, Burns, Burleson selected on day three of 2024 MLB Draft
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A trio of WKU pitchers had their childhood dreams come true as they were selected on day three of the 2024 MLB Draft. Left-handed pitcher Jacob Bimbi was taken by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 11th round with the 324th pick while right-handed pitcher Mason Burns was scooped up by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 14th round with the 411th pick. Right-handed pitcher Grant Burleson rounded out the day for the Hilltoppers as an 18th round selection, 553rd overall, by the Houston Astros.
WKU professor receives grant for maternity app to help the pregnant and postpartum stay healthy
A Western Kentucky University professor is helping pregnant and postpartum women stay healthy through fitness. WKU exercise science professor Rachel Tinius is the creator and CEO of BumptUp Labs, which is behind a mobile maternal health app. BumptUp features fitness programs, dietary support, and resources to help women stay active during and after childbirth. The effort has received a $295,883 dollar grant from the National Institutes of Health to support continued research for the app.
Edmonton Elks hire Almondo Sewell as defensive line coach
EDMONTON — The Edmonton Elks announced changes to their coaching staff on Tuesday, as Almondo Sewell has been named the club’s defensive line coach. Nate O’Neal, who served as defensive line coach since the start of the 2024 season has resigned. O’Neal had joined the Elks coaching staff as the defensive line coach on March 18, 2024. Sewell returns to the Green Gold after playing nine seasons with the club from 2011 to 2019, winning the 103rd Grey Cup in 2015. Louisville Metro Housing Authority Board approves vouchers to help residents, low-income households
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Residents at Dosker Manor are one step closer to leaving the complex. The Louisville Metro House Authority (LMHA) Board approved 997 project-based voucher (PBVs) awards on Tuesday. This means anyone living in LMHA's Legacy properties, like Dosker Manor, will be eligible for replacement housing with the help of the PBVs.
