MUNISING, Mich. (WJMN) – A kayaker is safe after being rescued from Lake Superior on Thursday.

On the morning of June 27, U.S. Park Rangers at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore received a call about a kayaker in distress near Miners Beach. Rescue teams from the U.S. Coast Guard, Alger County Sheriff’s Department, and park rangers began responding to the scene.

Prior to the arrival of emergency responders, three commercial guide operations who were already in the area began rescue efforts, and ultimately saved the kayaker from the water, who was beginning to show signs of shock. The 40-year-old individual was assessed on-scene by medical responders and released.

The National Park Service says this rescue operation emphasizes the importance of working together to keep everyone safe while on the water.

They also add that with the busy holiday weekend, water temperatures are just now reaching 60 degrees and it’s important to know your limits on the water and know before you go.
