MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — We’re just days away from major Fourth of July celebrations across Middle Tennessee , including Murfreesboro, where fireworks will light up the sky.

A “Celebration Under the Stars” is what Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation officials say you can expect on the Fourth of July this year.

“We’re going to have food trucks out here, [a] great community atmosphere. [At] 4:30 p.m. we’ll have a great DJ that gets everybody into the spirit of things and then at 7:30 p.m., Craig Campbell is going to be with us and he’s going to put on a fantastic show,” said Rachel Singer, Assistant Director for Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation.

The event is slated to happen at the Fountains at Gateway on Medical Center Parkway. Middle Tennessee Electric is helping to sponsor the event that’s expected to draw thousands.

“We have a great company that we contract with for our fireworks. They put on a fantastic show. They will launch the fireworks not too far from here and we will coordinate that with music,” said Singer.

The 25-minute fireworks show starts at 9 p.m. While many businesses close for the holiday nationwide, several local ones in the shopping center, like Five Daughters Bakery plan to stay open late selling donuts. That includes an Independence Day-themed donut among their top sellers made daily.

“We just opened this location in May so for us we actually haven’t even had our grand opening yet so it’s really good exposure for us,” said Valeri Baldozier, the store manager of the Five Daughters Bakery location in Murfreesboro. “I went straight to my bosses and was like, ‘Hey I want to stay open till 10:00 p.m.’ and they said absolutely.”

As the event pushes into its fourth year, Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation officials say the fireworks show gets bigger each year.

Singer told News 2 that the goal is to encourage the community to stay in Rutherford County every year come Independence Day. “Murfreesboro is growing and so we have new people coming in all the time looking for fun activities and areas to celebrate in.”
