NELSON COUNTY, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A Tennessee man was taken to the hospital with severe injuries after a car crash sparked a fire in a tree line near the Bluegrass Parkway in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) said deputies were dispatched around 1:45 a.m. on Saturday to mile marker 32 on the Bluegrass Parkway in response to a crash. While heading to the scene, dispatchers reportedly told deputies that the vehicle hit a tree.

Authorities said when deputies arrived at the scene, they found the driver, a 19-year-old teen from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, near the edge of the parkway.

NCSO said the driver was headed east when the car veered into the median, at which point the driver overcorrected and “went across both lanes” and hit an embankment, causing the car to roll several times before it finally “came to rest in a tree line where it caught on fire.”

The driver was reportedly given treatment at the scene by emergency personnel before he was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital for life-threatening injuries.

Law enforcement said fatigue was believed to be a factor in the crash.
