A funnel cloud was reportedly seen over Perryville around 1:37 p.m. on the afternoon of July 17. Kenny Williams of Ozora took a photo of the funnel cloud that appeared as if it was hovering over the local Hardees restaurant. Williams and his son were looking at a pickup he was interested in buying when they noticed the funnel cloud.

IL PORK PRODUCERS ASSOCIATION IS OFFERING TWO NEW PROGRAMS ON EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
(BLOOMINGTON) The Illinois Pork Producers Association is promoting two new programs focused on educational development for the swine industry’s next generation. One of the new initiatives is the Illinois Pork Industry Group (PIG) program, available at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, for students interested in agriculture and pork industry, regardless of their major. The IPPA covers the cost of the 6-week course and provides a $300 scholarship to those who complete it. While this program will start at LLCC this fall, the goal is to offer it at other community colleges in the future. The deadline to apply for the PIG program is September 1st with sessions beginning October 10th. The other program, the School Swine Project Grant, is being offered to universities, colleges, and high schools in Illinois with grants up to $2,000 for projects focused on the betterment of the pork industry. The funds could be utilized for campus barn improvements, student research projects, and more. The deadline to apply for the SSPG program funds in September 30th. Piranhas have successful season-ender
The Perryville Piranhas swim team finished the season with six first place finishes at the Southeast Missouri Swim Conference Championship Meet held July 13 in Cape Girardeau. Other teams competing in the event included the host, River City Aquatics, Kennett, Jackson Barracudas, Ste. Genevieve Stingrays SEMO Blueracers and Poplar Bluff. Lux Myer won the Female 9-10 SC 50 Fly in 33.52 seconds, the Female 9-10 SC 100 Free in 1:09.48, and the Female 9-10 SC 100 in 1:16.02; Emmitt Sander won the Male 8 and Under SC 25 Free in 18.03 seconds; and Joshua Southard won the Male 9-10 SC Free in 34.15 seconds, and the Male 9-10 100 Free in 1:15.85. According to Coach Angie Schupp is accompanying three members of the Perryville Piranhas swim team, as well as 15 other swimmers from the Southeast Conference, at the Junior Olympics in swimming being held in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Professor Sharp Generosity Funds Another Museum
New York, N.Y. – James Franklin Sharp, after graduating from Chester High School in Chester, Illinois, attended nearby Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
