MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (WBTW) — The annual boat parade and fireworks show will highlight the Fourth of July celebration on the MarshWalk in Murrells Inlet.

Through the years, the number of people taking part in the boat parade and attending the festivities has continued to grow, event coordinator Christina Burzler said.

Here’s where you can celebrate 4th of July along the Grand Strand

“Some of the families, they were children participating in the parade with their moms and dads and now they are participating with their children, which is super fun to see through the years and how that evolves,” Burzler said.

Now in its 41st year, the boat parade will kick off the holiday fun. It’s set to start at about 5:30 p.m. at Garden City Point. From there, it will take about 30 minutes to reach the eight participating restaurants along the Marshwalk.

“This year we have some Scouts joining us, which is super exciting, you know, all of the parade t-shirts, they benefit from the income of those t-shirts,” Burzler said. “It’s one of our largest fundraisers for them and they are going to be joining us on the explorer boat, which is the first boat in the parade.”

The Independence Day festivities will wrap up with what is known as the Grand Strand’s largest aerial fireworks show.

“So you will want to be in place by 10 p.m. to view those, and it’s an amazing show over 20 minutes long, and some of the best fireworks here on the Grand Strand,” Burzler said.

For many, the fun doesn’t end with the fireworks show. Early Friday morning, community members will gather alongside local organization Murrells Inlet 2020 to lend a hand in cleaning up the area.

“We of course partner with them,” Burzler said. “All of our restaurant staff, management, owners, they are all out here cleaning up any debris that might have happened from the night before.”

The goal is to keep the Inlet waters and shoreline clean and safe for more years of celebration, Burzler said.
