PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh’s Action Weather meteorologist Ashley Dougherty said Monday is an Impact Day in Pittsburgh due to isolated showers in the forecast. (UPDATE: The isolated shower threat for areas northeast will end in the early afternoon. With no additional showers expected, the impact day will end by 2 p.m.)
Yemeni coffee shop opening in North Oakland
Shibam Coffee, a Michigan-based Yemeni coffee company, will open on the corner of Melwood and Centre Avenues. Colliers, a Pittsburgh real estate agency, announced in April 2024 that they leased a space to Shibam Coffee and planned to open during summer 2024, but it has not announced an official opening date.
Sudden death basketball tournament at The Jungle
The “Jungle Classic” brought basketball players from Pittsburgh area high schools together on Sunday for a sudden-death tournament. The newly renovated basketball court known as “The Jungle” acted as the stage for players from Perry Traditional Academy, Taylor Allderdice High School, Valley High and more. Cole and Clay McCloskey of the Pittsburgh-based creative agency, Hounds, along with Janel Young and nonprofit, Swish Dreams helped bring new life to the beloved Northside court. The Taylor Allderdice Dragons came out on top as champions of the Jungle Classic.

Two starts resulted in a top-ten for the Vincentown, New Jersey, native, doing so in The Grove’s $8,000-to-win Jack Gunn on Friday - he finished eighth.

PhD student accused of torturing friend's baby under 'horrific circumstances' may face death penalty
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for a woman accused of murdering her friend's six-week-old baby while babysitting him and injuring his twin brother. Nicole Virzi, a PhD student, has been charged with the murder of Leon Katz during a babysitting stint at his family's Pittsburgh home in June and the Alleghany District Attorney's Office plans to seek capital punishment, it was announced on Friday. The 30-year-old allegedly inflicted fatal injuries to the infant's skull, resulting in multiple brain bleeds.
