They rave about the food.”Over the past 12 years, the tavern has introduced new menu items while keeping some of the original staples.Popular options on the menu are savory burgers and 10-inch pizzas made fresh in-house.“They’ve been flying off the shelf,” Metsaars said.One of the latest favorites at Red Rooster is the Jack Daniel’s burger for $11.50. It comes with a 1/2 lb. burger topped with cheddar, bacon haystack onions Metsaars’ homemade JackDaniel’s sauce and a side of kettle chips.Customers also have the option to add an order of fries for $1.50, sweet potato fries for $2.50 and onion rings for $2.Other popular options on the menu include the mouthwatering Bacon Rooster Balls Metsaars created about five years ago. For $6.50, customers get eight cheesy, bacon deep-fried hashbrowns served with their choice of sauce.The tavern also offers daily specials for those looking to get more bang for their buck. Mondays are buy one get one half off pizzas, Tuesdays are buy one get one half off burgers and Wine Down Wednesdays are half off bottles of wine.Metsaars touts Red Rooster as a bright and cheery spot along the lakeshore, inviting customers to cruise by the lake or state park before heading over for a bite.“We’re just kind of in the middle of nowhere, but it’s the middle of awesome,” she said.Hours of operation for the Red Rooster Tavern are Monday through Thursday, from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., 11:30 a.m. to midnight Friday through Saturday and 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
