The Elba 8U Little League team won the Imlay City tournament on July 14. Elba defeated Almont 14-13 in the finals and Capac 14-4 in the semifinals. Almont had defeated Imlay City 18-6 in the semifinals. Capac opened tournament play with a 7-6 win over Cass City. In the 10U tournament, Almont took home the trophy after defeating Cass City 9-1 in the finals. Almont beat Elba 9-7 in the semifinals, while Cass City defeated Imlay City Blue 4-3. Burtchville Woman Pleads Guilty to Embezzling More than $86,000
LANSING – Yesterday, Lisa Marie Tramski, 57, of Burtchville, pled guilty in the 31st Circuit Court in St. Clair County to one count of Embezzlement of $50,000 or more, but less than $100,000, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Tramski embezzled more than $86,000 from an elderly woman after becoming her court-appointed guardian. Tramski will pay $51,600.75 in restitution prior to sentencing as part of the plea.
Alleged carjacker nabbed in Oakland County
An Auburn Hills man is facing charges of carjacking and other crimes in connection with an alleged July 17 incident. Zahir Hashim Abdul Aziz, 20, is accused of waving down a female driver in an Auburn Hills parking lot off South Opdyke Road as if he needed help, then threw her out of her vehicle, struggled with her and then stole the car — hitting two others in the lot as he drove off.

Port Huron to Mackinac Race comes to an end
Sailboats are crossing the finish line up at Mackinac Island as the 100th Bayview Mackinac Race begins to wind down. The race got off to a slow start, being delayed nearly two hours Saturday due to lack of wind on lower Lake Huron. Wind conditions changed later in the day, giving a boost to some of the larger and faster boats in the race. The first to cross the finish line was Wizard in Class A shortly after 1pm Sunday. The leader for much of the race was Maverick, who also won the Chicago to Mackinac Race, but had to withdraw due to a mast failure.

The start of the Bayview Mackinac race, the 100th consecutive running of the race up Lake Huron from Port Huron to Mackinac Island on Saturday, July 20, 2024, was delayed a bit by lack of wind, but what was scheduled to be a record number of participants — 332 boats, from 17 different states, were scheduled to depart from the starting line in southern Lake Huron, breaking the record of 315 from 1985 — headed off to the finish line between Mackinac and Round islands.
