Local cyclist races for world championship this October
For Nathaniel Langlie, representing the United States runs in the family. This October, just over 40 years after his mother, Mary, competed as a race walker during the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, Langlie, who works at Main Street Bicycles in Lake Orion, will race against cyclists from around the world at the UCI World Championship of Gravel Racing in Belgium on Oct. 5-6.
Annual Trestle Trek to take place Monday
You don’t have to travel up north this Labor Day to participate in a five mile long bridge walk. The St. Clair County County Parks and Recreation Commission is hosting the 16th annual “Trek the Trestle” walk Monday along the Wadhams to Avoca Trail. The event is one of dozens statewide that coincide with the annual Labor Day walk on the Mackinac Bridge.

Grant Township Fire Department hosts annual chicken barbecue, car show
GRANT TWP. – It had been a long, long night for Grand Fire Chief Ron Melchert II and his crew. And morning came early – very, very early. “I think I was here until 1:30 a.m., or so,” the chief said as he watched the line for those who wanted barbecued chicken grow and grow as it stretched from the fire hall to the edge of Hogue Road and farther, “and then I was right back here at 4:30 a.m.”
Former Denny's razed in Fort Gratiot
The owner of the building that was once Fort Gratiot's Denny's has had it demolished after deciding it was outdated. Greg Sparling, the owner of the building Denny's once leased at the intersection of 24th Avenue and Krafft Road, said the building needed so many repairs and updates that he decided it was better to demolish it so something new could be built there.

Josh Pastner says Arkansas-Memphis basketball rivalry should resume
FAYETTEVILLE — Josh Pastner, who replaced John Calipari as head coach at Memphis, said Monday he thinks the basketball series between Memphis and Arkansas should come back. Speaking on the Hawgs Sports Network Daily Podcast, Pastner was asked about Calipari ending the series in 2003 and it never being renewed.
