Checking in on USPBL stat leaders going into the final weekend of July
With just over a month left in the 2024 USPBL season, let’s take a moment to examine who some of the top players have been so far. The regular season league title is very much still up for grabs – while the Westside Wooly Mammoths are in the driver’s seat at 14-9 as of the week of July 22, the Eastside Diamond Hoppers are right on their tails at 15-11 with the Utica Unicorns not far behind at 14-13. Only the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers at 8-18 are under .500.
Sanilac County mourns passing of retired Sheriff Virgil Strickler
The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the death of retired Sheriff Virgil Strickler, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 75. According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, Strickler began his law enforcement career in 1971 with the Sandusky Police Department — eventually serving as chief — following a tour of duty in Vietnam with the U.S. Air Force. He went on to serve 20 years with the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office and was elected sheriff in 1988.
