A True Hidden Gem This Indiana Antique Store is Tucked Away in the Woods
This hidden gem is located off the beaten path, and is worth the trip!. Mentone, Indiana is a small town that's home to around 938 residents (per the U.S. Census Bureau). But don't let their small population fool you, Mentone, Indiana is called "the Egg Basket of the Midwest" because they are home to the largest egg in the world, a 3,000 lbs concrete egg commemorating their 140-year history of providing eggs nationwide. But there's more than just a massive egg in Mentone, there's a bank, two doctors, a hardware store, and a few quaint shops as well. One of those shops is tucked away in the woods and is truly a hidden gem.
Redbox Owner Files for Bankruptcy: The Final Blow to DVD Rentals?
The parent company of Redbox, which still operates thousands of DVD rental kiosks nationwide, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. When I was growing up, VHS tapes were in the process of being phased out and replaced with DVDs. I collected DVDs of my favorite movies all through elementary school and high school. I bought hundreds of movies and was a frequent patron of the $5 movie bin at Walmart. As time went on, I started collecting Blu-ray discs and later 4K discs. In fact, I have every edition of Star Wars: The Original Trilogy that was ever released in home video format, excluding laser disc.
Popular Pizza Chain with Midwest Locations May Declare Bankruptcy
A pizza chain with locations in Evansville and Owensboro could declare bankruptcy as early as this week. There are plenty of places to get a slice of pizza throughout the tri-state. Personally, I've always been a Domino's guy, but I have never been known to shy away from a slice of pie from any other establishment. There is, however, one pizza chain I have not paid a visit to that looks to be a worthwhile stop. Mod Pizza is a relatively newcomer to the pizza scene and is described as a "fast and casual" dining experience. Mod Pizza serves individual artisan-style pizzas and salads and is essentially like Subway, but with pizza.
Here’s Why Mosquito Season is Worse This Year in Indiana
Have you noticed that the amount of mosquitoes is much worse this year? Well, we know why. I don't know about you, but I always have a BAD mosquito problem in my yard. I can't even walk outside for two minutes without having to swat those pests away. It's a nuisance that nobody wants to deal with. Maybe you have tried citronella candles while sitting on your patio. That helps some. Perhaps you have lemongrass or peppermint plants in your yard to help keep the mosquitoes away. Somehow it seems that they are all only so effective. Nobody in my family has been able to go outside without getting eaten up this summer. If you feel like mosquitoes have been much worse in Indiana this year, it isn't your imagination.

Area Near HGTV Homes Heavily Damaged By Hurricane Beryl
The effects of Hurricane Beryl making landfall in Texas are being felt in an area once featured on a popular HGTV TV show. Millions were left without power after Hurricane Beryl slammed parts of Texas on Monday. Photos from the area show heavy flooding along the coastline, including Surfside, Texas.
Cool Retro Car Features We Kind of Miss
Walking through a vintage car show, you can't help but notice just how different old cars feel. Hop in one and you realize that they're built like tanks (or boats, as we used to say) but somehow, they also feel oddly futuristic. Your Dashboard Has Never Been More Complicated. When...
How Will Hurricane Beryl Affect Southern Indiana’s Weather This Afternoon?
If you can feel the weather in your joints and bones like I can, you know that we are in for some stormy weather this afternoon. Our friends at the National Weather Service in Paducah are putting in some long hours this year. We seem to have a lot of pop-up storms and some that they can really pinpoint. Today's severe weather outbreak is from our friend from the south, Beryl.

Frozen Texas Roadhouse Rolls Headed to Walmart Stores in Indiana
Texas Roadhouse is now selling "mini rolls" in the freezer section at Walmart, and yes, they come with a Honey Cinnamon Glaze. I don't know what Texas Roadhouse does to their rolls, but whatever they're doing, I hope they never stop. I've never met a single person who said they didn't like those rolls, and it's safe to say I could probably tackle a whole basket on my own. Not only are they the lightest and fluffiest bunch of carbohydrates you can shove into your mouth, they also come with the restaurant's signature honey cinnamon butter. For me, that butter is what makes these rolls even more addictive.
KY Rescue Dog Named Reba Needs Your Help to be a Survivor
As soon as I saw her precious face and read the words "at risk of euthanasia," my heart dropped. Maybe it was the immediate redhead connection, or my love of her namesake, but I really want to help her find a home before it's too late. Reba came to the...
Western Kentucky & Southern Indiana Could Be Hit with Downpours, High Winds, and Tornadoes this Week
Here in the tri-state area, we're pretty used to those intense gullywasher storms. Just last week, my daughter and I were out at the barn where we keep our horse, and out of nowhere, it started raining cats and dogs - and pigs, and sheep, and goats, and cows! I mean, it was really coming down. I thought it'd ease up after a bit, but nope, it just kept pouring for over an hour straight. After such a dry spell, though, I have to admit, it was kind of a refreshing change.
This Tennessee City Has Been Named One of the Wildest in America
What comes to mind when you think of something being wild? That word is probably most often associated with animals and nature, or with someone's attitude and/or behavior. That word could mean a lot of different things, right? In fact, Merriam-Webster provides about 20 different ways to define the word wild. So, keeping all of that in mind, what cities do you think are the wildest in America?
These Hooters Locations in Indiana Have Abruptly Closed
The Hooters restaurant chain, known for its (wings?), has announced closures in several states. I'll be honest, I've never been to a Hooters, but I hear it's a real "hoot." (I'll see myself out.) The brand has been around for over 40 years and prides itself on their bar food, cold beer, sports, and, yes, their "Hooters Girls." According to the company's website, the chain was started by six businessmen with no restaurant experience who wanted to open a place they couldn’t get kicked out of (???). After a few decades, the Hooters brand now has over 400 restaurants in 29 countries. However, that number is now dwindling.
Evansville’s Burdette Park Announces Fright Night Featuring Friday the 13th This October
Camp Crystal Lake comes to Evansville. Located on Evansville's west side sits Burdette Park. Burdette Park was founded in 1936, and is home to 180 acres of fun. From the Aquatic Center which is a staple for summertime family fun in the Tri-State, to the gorgeous park with trails, cabins, and plenty to do there's something for everyone at this west side gem.
This KY Museum Will Hook You Up With Fun Fall Rail Excursions
The Fourth of July has passed, and, before you know it--maybe even before you finish reading this sentence--your favorite big box retailer will have devoted multiple aisles to back-to-school merchandise. And then--just like that--it will be fall. Is early July TOO early to start wishing for autumn weather? It isn't...
Fact Check: Is Evansville Getting a Second Five Below Store?
I found a few clues that made me look into the possibility of Five Below opening another Southern Indiana store. I noticed a giant sign that said Five Below is now hiring. But wait, it also says 'Coming Soon'. But we already have a Five Below, in fact that is where I was heading to at that very moment.
