CENTREVILLE — Shedding light on local power company happenings dates, Delmarva Power representatives presented updates and current projects to the Queen Anne’s County Commissioners July 23.

Current reliability improvements projects are expected for the Narrows and Queenstown substations to take loads off existing substations and reduce customer counts on those circuits, according to Donald King, senior engineer.

Five underground distribution circuits will be established at the Narrows substation located on Route 18 to support continued growth in the Stevensville area and to take load off the Graysonville substation, he said.

Currently, the substation is currently energized in service with no load on it, King said.

Work is expected to begin in the coming year and the circuits will serve Dominion Road, Gibson’s Grant Four Seasons, the Narrows, and the Grasonville area, he said.

Work is also projected for the Queenstown substation on Green Spring Road to have four new underground circuits established to serve Queenstown, Bennett Point Road and the Dulin Clark Road area, according to King.

Delmarva is also performing reconducting along McGinnes Road of Route 544 in the Crumpton Millington area to replace deteriorated poles and upgrading a reconductor with heavier more durable wire, he said.

In addition to infrastructure and major investment projects, Delmarva is also developing website accounts and technology resources for customers, according to Renee Sheehy, senior external affairs specialist.

Delmarva has a presence with Queen Anne’s County community partnerships and program investments, including grants for nonprofit events.

One of the significant nonprofits Delvarva has partnered with is Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore, providing mock student centers and simulating storefronts, according to Sheehy.

Working with individual towns, Delmarva has converted a number of Eastern Shore street lights from high pressure sodium to energy efficient LED, she said

Delmarva also participates in employee giving and volunteer hours, she said.

Delmarva Power customers can check their My Account, for information on their usage and report and track outages in real time, according to Sheehy. A new online portal is also being developed for new businesses, utility requests, and streamlining, she said.

“So certainly a lot of effort is going towards technology and ability to give the customers real time, information and access as they need it,” Sheehy said.
