EL DORADO, AR. (KTVE/KARD) — If you are a resident in El Dorado then you might notice a spike in one of your monthly utility bills! The sewer rate in the area has increased. This rising cost will help cover several costs, including upgrades to the two wastewater facilities.

Sewer rates have been increased in the viewing area, and with that each consumer must pay 5% more than they originally did before.

The El Dorado City Council amended Ordinance 1881 back in April to raise wastewater rates by 5% this year and the same amount on May 1st, 2025. Customers will soon see on average an increase of $4 per month for each year.

“Yes, it’s 5% on your sewer, plus a CPI annual CPI increase. And that only keeps up with the Gulf’s rising cost of chemicals and manpower, and they approved the five-sewer rate increase. That does not affect water rates. They approved a 5% sewer increase with the annual CPI.” – Robert Edmonds

El Dorado Water Utilities is preparing for a major overhaul to its two wastewater treatment plants. These much-needed changes will prevent the system from failing – a system that has been unaltered since the 1970s.
