EL DORADO, Ark. (KTVE/KARD) — On Friday, August 16, 2024, the South Arkansas Regional Hospital announced the arrival of its first robotic-assisted surgery system, marking a new age of medicine for the region. The system was acquired in July 2024, and the da Vinci 5 is reportedly the first of its kind in South Arkansas and one of only 15 hospital systems in the country.

According to officials, the cutting-edge technology will allow patients to receive advanced surgical care without the need to travel to Little Rock, Ark.

The da Vinci 5 system enables surgeons to perform complex procedures through small incisions using tiny instruments and a high-definition camera. The surgeon sits at a console next to the patient, controlling the instruments with precise movements. This technology enhances surgical accuracy, reducing operating times, blood loss, and the risk of infection. Patients benefit from less pain, smaller scars, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery.

General Surgery services will be the first on the da Vinci, followed by Urology and other specialties in the future. This innovative system represents our commitment to bringing the latest technology to our community, ensuring superior surgical outcomes and improved patient care.

South Arkansas Regional Hospital is proud to lead the way in providing state-of-the-art healthcare for our region.
