UNION COUNTY, Ark. (KTVE/KARD) — According to the Union County Sheriff’s Department, reports of scammers calling victims and representing themselves as local law enforcements are rising.

The scammers say that the intended victim has a warrant, old fines, missed jury duty, etc., and try to get the victim to pay the “fine” over the phone.

UCSD will never ask a victim to pay a “fine” over the phone and warns residents not to give out any information on paying fines over the phone. Criminals can make their phone numbers appear as any number they want, including numbers for law enforcement agencies.

Residents should hang up the phone if they have any doubts or look up the phone number for the law enforcement agency and call them directly if in question.

For more information, contact UCSD at (870) 864-1970.
