PINEVILLE, La. (WNTZ) – On August 28, 2024, at approximately 2:30 PM, officers from the Pineville Police Department, alongside personnel from the Pineville Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance, responded to a report of a shooting at 208 Lee St., Pineville, La. Upon arrival, first responders discovered a male victim who had suffered a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as Jacquez Burks, 20 years old, of Pineville, was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries.

The incident began as a dispute between two parties who were, unfortunately, half-brothers. During the altercation, a gun was produced, and the victim was shot once. Due to the diligent work by patrol officers’ response and the criminal investigation, a suspect was arrested within two hours of the Pineville Police Department being notified of the crime. Steven Bush, a Black male from Natchitoches, La., was taken into custody and charged with Second Degree Murder and Obstruction of Justice. He has been transported to the Rapides Parish Detention Center, where he is currently being held on a bond of $1,025,000.

Chief of Police Darrell Basco commented, “All forms of violence, including gun violence, are critical issues that pose a serious threat to the safety and well-being of our community. Such incidents must be reported immediately to help us maintain a secure environment. The Pineville Police Department remains dedicated to addressing these challenges through vigilant enforcement and community engagement.”

Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Pineville Police Department at (318) 442-6603.

Note: Suspects named are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
