EL Dorado School District uses smart tag system

EL DORADO, Ark. (KTVE/KARD) — The EL Dorado School District has started using a smart system. The system is used so that the school and the parents can keep track of students when they are riding a bus. Students are to scan in when they get on a bus. This is then sent to the app so that parents can track where this bus is. Once the student gets off the bus, an alert is received notifying the parents that their child has gotten off the bus. This new system is in place so that the students can get to their destination safely and everyone knows where they are. KTVE/KARD spoke with superintendent Jim Tucker for more insight on the smart tag system.

Smart tag system is a great system for parents to use. Each child in the district has one, they scan on to the bus when they get on it. Parents can download an app. They can find that information on our website. It tells them how to do it, where to go to get the app. And then from there they can see where their child is at. Now they need to make sure all their information is updated with the school district because the number they download the app from need to be the same number the school has, or they won’t be able to see.

There was an incident Thursday evening when a little boy was thought to be missing. The boy was never actually missing though. The bus driver, who was on this afternoon route for the first time, went to this bus stop and the little boy would not get off the bus. There was no guardian present that they could see, so the bus driver kept the student on the bus and proceeded to drive back to the bus station. Once at the bus station, a phone call was made to the number that was on file and no one answered. After waiting a few minutes, a call was received from the assistant principal at Yocum Primary that his grandparents were there waiting for him. The bus driver took him there were his grandparents picked him up. There are ways this can be prevented.

My advice would be downloading the smart tag app and make sure your child goes to school with it every day. And if you do that then you know where your child is when they ride the bus. The biggest, biggest benefit of course is safety. You know, knowing when your child gets off the bus. Knowing when your child gets on the bus. Being able to see where they’re at. Of course that’s the biggest benefit.
