LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A good reason to go out for a drive as AAA reports Arkansas gas prices have continued to drop.

The AAA report stated the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.95. This is a 5-cent drop from the $3 average a week ago, which itself was a 6-cent drop from the seven days. The current average is a 44-cent drop compared to a year ago.

In central Arkansas, the Little Rock—North Little Rock metro is running just below the state average at $2.94 per gallon. Hot Springs is right on the state average at $2.95, and Pine Bluff is on the high end at $3.

Greene County in northeast Arkansas has the lowest average in the state, at $2.77, while Montgomery County to the west has the highest, at $3.24.

According to AAA, the national average is $3.31, with California having the highest at $4.66. Arkansas currently has the eighth-lowest gas price in the country.

AAA reported that prices dropping in September typically occur in the fall due to the switch to less expensive winter-blend gasoline with higher vapor pressure.

Association spokesperson Nick Chabarria said price fluctuations remain possible, however.

“Arkansas is one of ten states with a statewide gas price average at or below $3 per gallon,” Chabarria said. “Although fluctuations remain possible, drivers will likely continue to see pump prices slide as the weather cools.”
