LOUISIANA (KLFY) — Hunters, get your wallets ready. This weekend will be the opportunity to get hunting essentials tax-free across Louisiana.

According to the Louisiana Department of Revenue, the Second Amendment Weekend Sales Tax Holiday will be from Friday through Sunday.

The holiday means that firearms, ammunition, and a range of hunting supplies will be exempt from state and local sales tax.

Blake Boudreaux, Lafayette Shooters general manager, considers the tax-free weekend as the kickoff to hunting season. He said it is one of the busiest times of the year for Lafayette Shooters, adding he considers it the “Black Friday” for hunting season.

“We anticipate a lot of business. But, you know, this is what we do, [this] is what we prepare for,” he said.

Boudreaux said the store does a lot of hard work to ensure their salespeople are knowledgeable about the products they sell and are ready for events like this weekend.

“So if you come here, I have to warn you, it’s going to be very, very packed [and] very, very busy. But it’ll be worth your time,” he said.

According to the Louisiana Department of Revenue, the sales tax holiday does not apply to the purchase of hunting dogs, animal feed, off-road vehicles and vessels such as airboats.
