LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — On day two of Hurricane Francine preparations, Lafayette officials announced that a shelter is available for residents who need a safe place from the storm.

The shelter is at the Dupis Recreation Center, located at 1212 E. Pon De Mouton.

Christine Dayries, Chief of Staff of the Mayor-President’s Office, said people who plan to use the shelter need to bring items including the following:

    • state-issued ID card
    • bedding
    • personal hygiene products
    • medication
    • phone chargers
    • food and water
    • baby supplies, if applicable

Trash pick-up with AWS will be suspended on Wednesday with Thursday’s collection being delayed.

Boulet’s office will continue to have daily press conference updates during Tropical Storm Francine to ensure public safety.
