    FEMA prepares for disaster relief in Louisiana after president OKs emergency declaration

    BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, has announced disaster assistance is available for Louisiana.

    After President Joe Biden approved Gov. Jeff Landry’s request to issue an emergency declaration for the state, this gave FEMA the authority to plan for disaster relief efforts. Louisiana leaders such as U.S. Rep. Garret Graves and U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy pushed for the president’s approval of the declaration.

    Landry also issued an emergency declaration for the state during a news conference on Monday.

    According to a release, FEMA is authorized to identify, mobilize, and provide equipment and resources after an emergency event.

    Emergency protective measures for the following parishes will be given at 75% federal funding and are limited to direct federal assistance and reimbursement for mass care such as evacuation and shelter support.

    • St. Tammany
    • Tangipahoa
    • Terrebonne
    • Vermillion
    • Washington
    • West Baton Rouge
    • West Feliciana

    The following parishes will have 75% of federal funding provided, which is limited to direct federal assistance.
