ST. MARY PARISH, La. (KLFY) — Hurricane Francine made landfall in Louisiana at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday as a Category 2 hurricane, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The storm intensified slightly just before landfall, having been a Category 1 for most of the day. Maximum sustained winds were estimated by NHC to be near 100 mph.

The landing was officially in Terrebonne Parish, but the large eye also passed through St. Mary Parish.

At 5 p.m. NHC said a NOS station located on Eugene Island reported a peak gust of 105 mph. The minimum pressure measured at that location was 28.82 inches. Heavy rains and hurricane-force winds are spreading inland across southern Louisiana.
