LOUISIANA (KTAL/KMSS)—The Louisiana State Police, federal and local agencies state individuals guilty of making threats against schools are committing felony crimes. They emphasize that “making false threats against schools is not only dangerous but also illegal.”

Under Louisiana law, individuals guilty of making false terrorizing or menacing threats regarding ‘the existence of a bomb or other explosive device, or threats of violence is a felony crime’ can face up to 15 years in prison and significant fines.

“These actions disrupt school operations, waste valuable law enforcement resources, and cause undue fear and anxiety among students, parents, and educators,” states LSP.

According to LSP, they are unaware of any credible threats to schools within the state.

They assure the public they are closely monitoring tips, leads, and information sources while working with federal, state, and local partners to investigate and share information, ensuring the safety of our communities.

Anyone with information on suspicious activity or concerning threats is encouraged to contact the Louisiana State Analytical and Fusion Center (LA-SAFE) at 225-925-4192.

Individuals can use the LA-SAFE website, an online reporting system through a secure form submitted directly to the appropriate investigators.
