OUACHITA PARISH (KTVE/KARD) – On the Geaux Repair, an electronic repair store in Ouachita Parish, teamed up with the Family Justice Center to collect and donate phones for survivors during Domestic Violence Awareness month.

The electronic repair store will take in old devices that are functional or non-functional. The store will attempt to repair devices that do not work. Those completely non-functional electronics will be given to the Family Justice Center and sold for parts. A portion of the sale of parts will benefit the Family Justice Center. KTVE/KARD spoke to On the Geaux Repair about the collaboration.

When we get them in if they’re not working or not functioning we do our best to repair them so that we can give them a functioning device. I feel like it’s better that we’re donating a device that can be used rather than rather than just be sold for parts.

We just want to give back. I mean, we’ve been put in this position, and I always wanted to help where I can and when I can, and this is our way of being able to do so.

Brooke McQuillin | Owner, On the Geaux Repair

As of now, On the Geaux Repair has collected 15 phones and counting. Donations do not have to be a cellular device; other electronics are accepted as well. The director of the Family Justice Center expressed how a donation of this kind could help survivors.

Many times survivors of domestic violence will leave and maybe their telephone has been destroyed by their abuser or maybe they don’t have one, they’ve been restricted from having one of those in the past. You know maybe they just need a private number that they can reach out if there’s an emergency. So these phones will actually help survivors be able to reach out for help if they need it.

Luckily, donations do not stop at the end of this month. On the Geaux Repair has not set an end date for donations. Those looking to drop off electronic devices can drop off at either of the On the Geaux locations in Monroe or West Monroe.
