    ‘General Hospital’ star Ron Hale dies at 78

    (NEXSTAR) – Ron Hale, star of “General Hospital” and “Ryan’s Hope,” has died at the age of 78.

    The Grand Rapids, Michigan native died August 27 in South Carolina, according to his obituary. While no specific cause of death was given, his niece, Lori Brown, said that he died unexpectedly at his home in St. George, according to the Soap Opera Network.

    “He was a wonderful human and he will be missed dearly,” Brown wrote in a Facebook post. “May he rest in peace.”

    During his decades-long career Hale appeared in a number of television series and movies, but may be best known for his roles as Mike Corbin on “General Hospital” and Dr. Roger Coleridge on “Ryan’s Hope.” Hale would receive daytime Emmy Award nominations in 1979 and 1980 for his work on “Ryan’s Hope.”

    He also appeared in episodes of “Search for Tomorrow,” “MacGyver” and “Love Is a Many Splendored Thing.”

    Fans of the 1976 political thriller movie “All the President’s Men” might remember Hale for his role as Frank Sturgis.

    “General Hospital” mourned Hale in a statement on X:

    The entire General Hospital Family is saddened to hear of Ron Hale’s passing. We would like to extend our condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time. He was an incredible actor and an unforgettable colleague. May he rest in peace.
