BOSSIER CITY, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – If you’re looking for a job in the horse racing industry, Louisiana Downs has a key position available.

Louisiana Downs announced that Director of Racing and Racing Secretary Matt Crawford is retiring.

“With mixed emotions, I will be taking a step back from the racing office that has been a part of my life for 30 years as a racing official, racing secretary, and Director of Racing,” Crawford said. “I want to spend more time with my grandkids and wife after traveling most of those 30 years. It is time to take that step back and enjoy my family. I appreciate Kevin Preston for allowing me to represent racing at Louisiana Downs for three years. He has big goals to make the track a huge success.”

Crawford is a Texas native whose career in horse racing started as an assistant trainer; a role that enabled his deep understanding of the story. He has held various roles in horse racing throughout the country including Oaklawn Park, Lone Star park, Canterbury Park, Sam Houston, Ruidoso Downs, Zia Park, and Hialeah Park. In July 2022 he took on the role of Racing Secretary at Louisiana Downs.

“I want to thank Matt for his time here at Louisiana Downs,” Owner Kevin Preston said. “During his tenure, we have seen many positive things happen at the track. Although Matt will be taking a step back, he will still play a small role with us moving forward.”

Crawford will continue to assist Louisiana Downs through Book 1 of the Quarter Horse Meet, which starts on January 9, 2025.

The search for a new racing secretary is underway. For more information, contact ladowns.com or call the racing office at 318-742-5555.
