OUACHITA PARISH, La. ( KTVE/KARD ) — Even if there is no indication of election day threats happening in Ouachita Parish, it is better to be safe than sorry.

In September, the FBI warned several election offices in the country to be aware after threatening letters were sent to multiple secretaries of state.

Now, election workers are calling on protection for election day.

Our office is aware of the threats that have been going on nationwide against election workers and offices. And we are working with local, state and federal law enforcement partners to continue to monitor the situation.

Trisler continues by breaking down how voters can be aware of any potential threats before hitting the polls.

We do encourage voters to subscribe to electronic notification on the GeauxVote app or on the GeauxVote online portal if they haven’t already. If something were to happen, we could get information out quickly to the voters.

What happens in the event that a threat is made while voters are at the polls?

There will be, you know, signs posted and probably most likely staff at the polling location to let voters know. Traditional word of mouth sort of notification, communication style and push out the information on digital and send out information to news media.

The online voting registration deadline is October 15th. Not only should you exercise your right to vote, but you should also exercise precaution at the polls.
