EL DORADO, Ark. ( KTVE/KARD ) — Life touch hospice will host a volunteer training session in eldorado on Tuesday, October 15th for anyone wanting to learn about the organization and volunteer opportunities. The training will begin at 9 o’clock in the morning. Jelyn Wynn spoke with KTVE/KARD about what the training consists of.

Tomorrow we’re having our volunteer training class. We do it as needed. This one is scheduled, but if you can’t attend tomorrow morning, just call the offices and we will figure out a time for you to come train with us.

The volunteers are a vital part of the team. They are necessary for hospice to run properly. Volunteers provide ongoing support when the need is there.

My volunteers visit with the patients and the families in the nursing homes. It’s just another set of eyes on your family, your loved one. They go in, they just talk. they just visit. Sometimes they want someone to read to them. Sometimes they just watch TV. Sometimes they just watch them sleep. But a lot of them, some of them are commutative and some of them aren’t, but some just like to listen to them talk. In homes, sometimes we can the volunteer can come in and give the caregiver a break. Maybe that caregiver needs to get a haircut, go to a doctor’s appointment for a couple of hours, and so they can kind of give them a short respite.

All volunteers must be trained and certified. They also have certain requirements. They must meet before they can be a part of the team.

And then we will also do background checks, and we do driver’s license and insurance checks just to keep our patient safe. I just need volunteers. I need people in south Arkansas to come help me, help our patients and visit with them. And this training is part of that process.

This training starts bright and early Tuesday, October 15th. So, if you are interested, please reach out.
