    Shasta County bomb team responds to explosive device on I-5

    SHASTA COUNTY, California — The Shasta County Interagency Bomb Team responded to a suspicious device found on the northbound I-5 Turntable Bay off-ramp early Wednesday morning.At approximately 5:58 a.m. on August 28, California Highway Patrol officers discovered the device, which appeared to have been unsuccessfully detonated. While the Bomb Team worked to render the device safe, the public in the vicinity was advised to shelter in place, and Turntable Bay Road was closed, according to the Shasta County Sheriff's Office.The Bomb Team successfully mitigated the threat at around 8:51 a.m. The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Shasta County Sheriff's Office at 530-245-6540.
