Northern Lights possible tonight in VT, NY, and NH

Right up front, first and foremost, there’s a low chance to see the Aurora Borealis on the northern horizon late tonight through early Wednesday morning. However, a chance is a chance and we wanted you to be aware of it. This geomagnetic storm will only register as a G-1. Compare that to our summer flare ups of geomagnetic events that produced G-3 to G-5 storms with prolific color in our night skies. Tonight’s storm will be much weaker and will not produce the colors you seen from the viewer photo below which actually dates back to May 2024.

There’s a chance to experience those dancing lights across our night sky in communities located across northern New York, northern Vermont, and northern New Hampshire. It’s southern Quebec that has the best opportunity to enjoy the Aurora Borealis. However, if you’re a night owl this could be worth your while.

Overnight and until about a few hours before Wednesday’s sunset is the timing we think the lights will be most visible, that is if you can see them at all. Clearing skies are likely overnight as high pressure builds in across southern New England. It will also turn chilly for viewing time with those clearing skies, light winds, and dry weather. Nevertheless, perfect visibility is expected overnight with fog not becoming dense until daybreak Wednesday.
