Wildfire smoke returns with minor air quality issues

Wildfires continue to burn in the western United States and north into southern Canada. Those wildfires continue to send smoke into all levels of the atmosphere. Whereas it’s smoke that’s extremely close to the ground way out west, it’s a lot higher in the atmosphere by the time it reaches us. That’s why we don’t think air quality will be too big of a concern despite the return of those smoky skies today through Friday.

It may be a little tough to notice the smoke at first today because not only will it be located at higher altitudes but it will also start to mix in with some mid-level cloudiness. Nevertheless, a hazy mix of sun and clouds will be likely throughout the day. That smoke will linger through at least Friday afternoon making for smoldering sunset this evening and a stellar sunrise Friday morning.

As far as air quality is concerned, we may see levels spike from “good” to “moderate” from time to time but we’re not overly worried about it. Most will be able to go about their normal business with no concern for the smoke. However, our elderly friends/family and those with respiratory conditions will want to take it extra easy with those outdoor plans. This round of wildfire smoke will be much less impactful than previous rounds from this summer or even last. Breathe easy and don’t forget to snap photos of the sunrise and sunset. We’d love to share them on-air and online.
