Local display of Northern Lights possible overnight

Similar to last week, there’s a weak geomagnetic storm that has set off the potential to experience the Aurora Borealis late tonight through early Tuesday morning. The Northern Lights typically peak between 10PM and 2AM during any given instance of this phenomenal display of lights.

Unless it’s a major geomagnetic storm, similar to what we experienced earlier this spring, the lights are usually not visible to the naked eye. They tend to only be visible through long exposure camera shots. The best opportunity to see a weak flare up of the lights resides across southern Quebec, northern New York, northern Vermont, and northern New Hampshire.

The overnight will feature clearing skies and really great visibility if the lights decide to do a little dance. If you live in the aforementioned areas that have a chance to see the lights tonight, make sure you’re escaping the city lights and any heavy light pollution. Look to the northern sky and check low on the horizon for any colorful lights.

Again, tonight’s storm likely won’t be seen with the naked eye so break out the long exposure cameras. If you’re going to be out late, let us know if you see anything and if you do, feel free to upload a picture to our Viewer Photo gallery.
