GAINESVILLE, Florida — Alachua County Detectives arrested Thomas Ali Burns on Wednesday for video voyeurism and using a two-way communication device to commit a felony. In June, patrol units responded to a local grocery store after reports of a suspicious person taking pictures under female customers' skirts. Video surveillance showed the suspect placing his cellphone inside a shopping basket, approaching several women from behind, and positioning the basket underneath their skirts for a few seconds. Deputies identified Burns, born October 18, 1978, as a possible suspect and continued the investigation, which led to a search warrant and probable cause for arrest.Burns is currently held at the Alachua County Jail on a $60,000 bond. Authorities believe Burns may have targeted local grocery stores and large retail chains for the past two years. Detectives are asking anyone who recognizes Burns and believes they may be a victim to contact Det. Adkins at madkins@acso.us ."This is still an active investigation and additional charges may develop as more victims come forward," stated the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.
