Tracy Conner chosen interim president, CEO of Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A longtime leader in the Grand Strand business community has been named the interim head of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.

Tracy Conner will serve as president and CEO following his appointment by the chamber’s board of directors. He takes over immediately following the resignation of Karen Riordan , who left the job to spend more time with her family.

“It is such an important organization for our community and so I just look at it as an honor,” Conner told News13 on Tuesday.

Conner has more than 35 years of professional experience that includes “deep connections within the Grand Strand’s business community as well as the national tourism and hospitality industries,” the chamber said in a news release.

He also has ties to the Myrtle Beach Are Golf Course Owners Association and played a role in bringing the Myrtle Beach Class PGA Tour event to the Grand Strand this spring.

“I was just a steward and played a small role in moving it forward for the past 15 years,” Conner said.

The chamber says Conner is a perfect fit for his knowledge and passion for the community.

Conner says his biggest goal is helping the chamber continue on the path it’s on. He spoke about whether or not he’d hold the interim position for longer than just temporary.

“Not right now,” Conner said. “My goal is to assist the organization, assist the search committee and in helping find that next person.”

The chamber says it will soon form a committee to select a firm for a nationwide search. Conner says it should take about 4 to 8 months.
